Ornamentals

A range of opportunities exist for Mendel technology in the ornamental plants arena. To capture value in this sector, in 2006 we established a new company, Ornamental Biosciences, Inc. as a joint venture with Selecta Klemm, a leading company specializing in the breeding and propagation of ornamentals. Our major focus is to commercialize new ornamental crop varieties that are differentiated in the marketplace by improved growth and survival under a range of stresses including drought, freezing tolerance and disease resistance. Our technology has already proven to be effective in early trials on these species and a number of Mendel transcription factors have been identified which deliver the target traits.
