Research Associate 4 (Hayward, CA)

The Cell Biology group is seeking a BS/MS level Research Associate with a strong background in cell biology to join our technology team. As a member of this group, you will participate in development and implementation of methods for the creation of transgenic plants via tissue culture. Applicants should have a strong background in sterile technique, plant tissue culture, transformation, plant cultivation, phenotypic analysis and preferably some hands on experience with molecular biology-based analysis of transgenic plants. As a Research Associate 4 you will have the opportunity to be integrally involved in our exciting research programs aimed at developing new agricultural products. Experience with anther culture is highly desirable, though not required. Qualified applicants will be expected to have exceptional organizational and communication skills, and a desire to work cooperatively in a team environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Design experiments and perform analysis and interpretation of results
  • Prepare technical reports, summaries, written protocols
  • Work closely with other teams to keep program operating efficiently
  • Participate in presentations at team meetings

Qualifications:

  • BS/MS in cell biology or a related biological science
  • 8+ years of practical experience with several years of plant tissue culture experience
  • Experience in Agrobacterium-mediated plant transformation, preferably with monocots
  • Experience with anther culture would be a plus
  • The ability to work in a team-oriented environment as well as independently
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Lab Assistant II (Hayward, CA)

SUMMARY:

Applicants must be responsible, reliable, and able to work both independently and with a group; applicants must also have a keen attention to details.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Growing and taking photos of experimental plant material
  • Harvesting tissues and assisting with basic molecular biology tasks such as extracting; DNA and RNA
  • Sterilizing and planting seeds
  • Printing labels and labeling tubes and 96-well plates
  • Extracting RNA with a Qiacube automated sample processing system
  • Analyzing samples with a Nanodrop spectrophotometer
  • Other duties may be assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Laboratory research experience and fine motor skills are required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • AA Degree preferred
  • Experience in molecular biology is desirable

Candidates with a Bachelors degree and several years of laboratory experience are encouraged to apply. Job responsibilities include providing research support through data collection, database entry and data analysis. Previous experience working with plants, including making leaf gas-exchange measurements is desired, but not required. Research Scientist (Hayward, CA)

Mendel Biotechnology, Inc. is seeking a Masters- or PhD-level researcher to join our research team in Hayward, CA. The successful candidate should have a broad range of training in the areas of plant physiology/biochemistry, and experience in nitrogen metabolism and mining of large data sets is preferred. Knowledge of basic biochemical tools (e.g. enzyme assays, Western blots) and prior experience with plant metabolomics (e.g. gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, high-performance liquid chromatography, thin layer chromatography) is also desired. The individual must have the ability to work across a diverse matrix of teams and must have excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
